New Angel Base
So random, but I decided to redo one of my older bases. I was looking through some of my very early tutorials and how old they are now xD Hopefully over the next few months I'll be able to make some more updated ones. Many of the older pixel doll sites I used to enjoy have disappeared over the years and I'm grateful that they can still be mostly viewed on the Internet Archive.
I noticed Pinkland went down recently, after being up for many years and I was sad to see it disappear.
I don't even make many pixel dolls much myself now, I mostly just make new pieces that are entirely bespoke, but I do think it'll be nice to make an updated pixel doll tutorial, for those that might want to learn and don't want to have to draw their own faces and bodies.
New Angel Base
The original one was made in 2003, about six months after I started drawing pixel art and I reshaded it in 2005, which was several lifetimes ago now.
The colour palette has been reduced by a looooot (28 down to 7 + transparency). When I first started pixel art, I didn't care about restricting colour count at all and then I went through a phase where I cared about it probably too much and now I've balanced out to not caring that much, but the habits I've built up tend to lean towards a lower colour count, even if there are some unnecessary ones still in there.
There are a few changes that are probably obvious, but I will mention them anyway! The mouth has changed a lot in terms of style, which is fitting for my newer style - but you could easily add some lip colour back in (and I did include a head option for it).
I lengthened the body a bit too, because it was quite short before - I also lengthened the thighs a bit and moved the legs in just slightly so they are standing a little better. They were mostly just shifting a few pixels around, but I think the proportions came out a little better in this case, while keeping a similar footprint. I kept the chunky legs, which are probably great for drawing the type of jeans that are now in fashion again xD
